Welcome to the Child Advocacy Center of East Alabama

The children who visit our center are alleged victims of sexual and physical abuse; may have witnessed a serious crime being committed or victims of internet and/or child pornography scams. These are the children we see everyday at our house.

Our purpose is to provide a child-friendly atmosphere where children feel safe and are encouraged to tell their story. They are greeted by professionals trained to address the unique needs of each child. Through collaboration with other agencies, we are able to provide the child and the non-offending family members with our core services: Forensic interviews & evaluations, therapy, parenting, and other educational programs.

In both Lee and Macon Counties, every case of serious physical abuse and sexual abuse committed against a child is presented to a multidisciplinary team. The team consists of members of local law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources, the District Attorney's Office, the Child Advocacy Center of East Alabama, a medical professional, and a mental health practitioner.

Once a month, a Multidisciplinary Team meeting is held in each county to discuss cases individually. Each case is presented by the law enforcement officer who investigated the report, the Child Abuse and Neglect social worker from DHR, and the Interviewer who conducted the forensic interview. Each case receives input from all the members of the team, while the District Attorneys Office discusses the laws that pertain to the case. The case is then presented to the county's District Attorney for prosecution, if possible.
